Farm Management and Farmer Education

Farm Management and Farmer Education Overview

In developing countries, the adoption of improved farming techniques is stalled by inadequate knowledge of best farm management practices. Farmers often require extra education and proper guidance to ensure a combination of improved techniques and implementation of management practices for efficiency. This is an indication that farm education is central to making decisions that relate to planning, organizing, operating and coordination of on-farm activities with the goal of cost minimization, output, and profit maximization. These outcomes are relevant to agricultural growth and development. Considering that farm productivity depends significantly on knowledge, a minimum level of farm education is required by farmers. As a socioeconomic characteristic, descriptive analysis adopted by millions of researchers globally continues to indicate the relevance of education to various facets of agriculture including crop and animal production, processing, marketing, and implementation of climate-smart strategies.

Farmer education gives insight on calculated allocation of resources such as the application of recommended doses of agrochemicals and antibiotics. It enables farmers to assess and avoid risks that may be associated with farming, and the costs and benefits of different agricultural practices including the adoption of new varieties. Farm education also enables effective deployment and management of farm labour force. Through capacity building programmes, Tengrain Science is actively involved in improving farmers’ education for better farm management practices.
